equation sort- math on iPad

The First Grade Butterflies have been learning about the importance of "thinking" as mathematicians and explaining their thinking-reasoning to others through speaking, creating a visual, and/or writing.

The Butterflies work cooperatively and collaboratively with math partners to problem solve- "thinking" and explaining their thinking-reasoning.

The first graders used their problem solving skills to view and analyze an equation sort on the iPad to determine "how" the sort was completed, "label" each column heading, and generate and record an equation for each column that corresponds to the sort.

The math partners imported the sort from the class shared "iPad Math" Dropbox folder into the Notability iPad app. They used the stylus and writing-typing features of the Notability app to take notes, make connections, create visuals,... and to title each column heading and record an equation at the bottom of each column. After completion- the math partners saved the sort into their individual Dropbox folders and emailed me (teacher) the completed sort... providing the capability for parents to view in their child's Dropbox folder, allowing me to collect and view, and providing the capability to display completed sorts on the SMARTBoard for students to view and discuss and partners to explain.
