As mathematicians, the First Grade Butterflies use reading strategies to read math word problems and identify the important information and question. The Butterflies use operations, algebraic thinking, and problem solving skills to solve word problems.
Banana Math is an iPad app the Butterflies use to develop their math skills with word problems. The first graders work independently and/or collaboratively (explaining their thinking-reasoning to partner) to solve addition and/or subtraction word problems using the Banana Math app.
